Forget the tent, leave your table stovetop behind, no need to even grab your utensils…. just pack your clothes and food for your weekend getaway. Sounds like a nature getaway that seems too good to be true, doesn’t it? Not at Getaway House. This was the easiest trip to pack for and it made my getaway actually feel like a well rested vacation. A lot of the times I feel like we need a vacation after a vacation, but not this one. I felt rested the whole way through. Keep on reading to hear about my review of Getaway House and see if it’s something that you would want to check out. Maybe planning for a mini weekend getaway is just what you need to bring you some bliss too!

What is Getaway House?

Getaway offers modern tiny cabin rentals nestled in remote areas across the US. Each cabin is between 50-150 feet apart, with the iconic window view looking out into either a forest or mountain view. Your cabin won’t ever look into someone else’s cabin, so it really makes you feel like you’re the only one there!

The cabins each have their own name, so don’t go looking for a cabin number. Our cabin’s name was Esther. Supposedly the staff names each of their cabins after their family members. Too cute, right?

Locations are all across the US:

  • Texas: Dallas, Austin, Houston
  • Chicago
  • New York
  • Nashville
  • Boston
  • Washington, DC
  • Portland
  • Cleveland
  • Atlanta
  • Los Angeles (the location I stayed at)

Why I loved it

Staying at Getaway was the perfect choice for getting away from the city and breathing in the fresh mountain air. I was able to enjoy being in the mountains isolated from others, yet I had everything I needed in the cutest tiny house. It made packing and unpacking very easy. Even though this technically wasn’t camping, it still felt like it because I was sleeping in the middle of the woods and I still got that campfire smell in my hair. An extra bonus is that I had the ease of using my own private bathroom to wash out that campfire smell if I wanted to, in warm water! No cold water or community bathrooms here!

I also liked the ease of the check-in process. There is no welcome center or reception. You just drive right up to your cabin and plug in the key code they provide to you on the day of arrival. The cabin seems very secure with your own person key code lock, so you can leave your campsite at any time knowing your belongings are safe inside. In case of emergencies or even if you need an extra towel, they do have someone on site that can help you out.

The Inside

When you walk in, you will be amazed at how much they fit in a tiny four walled room. There is a queen size bed, kitchen, table, and even a bathroom! I told you….it has it all. The kitchen includes a 2 stovetop burner, mini fridge, and sink. The bathroom is on the end of the unit separated by a wall and includes a toilet and shower. There is plenty of storage for your bags under the bed or on the shelf above the kitchen. The bed is large enough to fit 2 adults. In some cabins, they offer bunk beds to fit 4 people.

The Outside

Outside your cabin, they provide 2 chairs and a fire pit with wood available to purchase. We brought wood with us to save us some costs. They also have a full sized wooden picnic table and small trash can.

The Details

Getaway House thought of every little detail to make our stay truly easy and blissful. What stood out to me the most was the aesthetic appearance of the cabin. It adopts the Danish style of “hygge,” which is a lifestyle of creating a simple yet warm atmosphere of cozy living. As you walk into the cabin, you are greeted with wood walls giving you that cozy cabin feeling. It doesn’t take long to be amazed by one of the back walls being a huge glass window allowing you to look out at your view. I had a hard time staring at anything else when I had a beautiful view out in front of me. The best part was that I wasn’t looking into other cabins, roads, or people. It just felt like I was the only one in the woods!

Though the views were my favorite part, I appreciated that the bed was actually comfortable. I am not lying when I say it was more comfortable than the bed I have at home! The white linens on the bed give you a clean look and add to the simple charm of the cabin.

One detail of the kitchen that I admired was their vintage red refrigerator. It’s little details like that that really made me in awe of this tiny house.

To really knock it out of the park, I appreciated how they went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed. Upon arrival, there was a handwritten note to greet us, next to a complimentary s’mores kit. That extra touch really made us feel special.

My Final Review of Getaway House

Overall, I would rate my Getaway stay a 10/10…and that’s an unsponsored review for ya! I was very impressed with the setup of the tiny cabin and the views had me in awe. I appreciated how safe I felt with the cabin lock, in addition to the comfort I felt inside. Though there were not many sounds to be heard anyways (besides nature’s noise of course), the cabin was sound proof so I couldn’t even hear the crickets chirp outside. No noise and dark curtains inside made for a very peaceful sleep.

My only critique is that I wish you had the option of choosing what cabin you wanted to stay in at the time of booking. The only booking option you have is choosing a “forest view” or “mountain view.” Your cabin is then randomly assigned on the day of check-in. When I had walked around the premises, most cabins seemed to have a beautiful view, but having the flexibility of choosing the exact cabin site would be preferred. Despite this, I am already looking for another Getaway site to stay at in the future!
