5 Fun Ways to Kick Off Spring!

Spring has arrived! One of my favorite things about spring is how nature wakes up again. The flowers are starting to bloom, the skies are less gray, and the world looks more colorful. Here are some fun ways to kick off spring that I am sure will bring you bliss!

1. Create your own floral arrangement

Head to your local farmer’s market or grocery store and pick up your favorite flowers! You might even have new blooms springing up in your backyard to pick. I like to pick one colorful varietal to stand out, along with some greenery or white accent flowers. I love to create my own because the flowers can go along with my current home design/color theme and I can make it however large or small I want to go in the right place of my home. I have found that making my own bouquets actually give me more flowers than a single premade bouquet so I can divide them up into several arrangements to put around my house. I have created a post on how to create your own floral arrangement here!

2. Make your own wreath

When I pull into my house, the first thing I look towards is my front door. What better way to decorate the front door than with a wreath that YOU created! It brings me so much bliss to see a wreath that I created adding some charm to my home. I love changing the wreath for every season or holiday. Check out my post on making a spring wreath here!

One of my favorite places to look for wreath decor is Michaels craft store or Hobby Lobby. Both stores have a plethora of dried flowers and berries that you can use to assemble your wreath.

3. Plant your own garden…or visit one!

When you think of spring, what do you think of? I think of blossoming flowers, trees growing their leaves back, and juicy fruit coming back into season. The sun is back out shining and my garden is ready to go from bland to fab! Even if you don’t have space for a garden, you can buy a small planter to put out on your front entry way or even use a pot to plant your own produce. Some of the best fruits to plant during spring are:  cucumbers, beets, tomatoes, raspberries, and strawberries.

We also have a local garden nearby that offers “U-pick” weekends that I will frequently visit to get fresh produce. Check out your local farm to see if you can pick from their harvest.  Nothing smells more like spring than fresh fruit!

If you want to check out Southern California U-pick farms, I have listed a few of my favorite farms on my post, here!

4. Paint a birdhouse

When I am stressed out, one of my favorite things to do is paint. Waving a paintbrush around is a type of hypnosis for me and lets my mind wander aimlessly at the brushstrokes. If painting a canvas sounds intimidating, try painting something on a smaller scale like a birdhouse. You can find wooden birdhouses at your local craft store such as Hobby Lobby. You can get creative by adding shells or jewels to your birdhouse using a hot glue gun. A freshly painted birdhouse will come in handy for all of the birds coming back around during the season change. Maybe even put a bird feeder nearby. You will love to see which bird keeps coming back to their new house!

5. Make lemonade

Sounds simple, right? Often times the best things in life are simple. The next time you are at the market, pick up a bag of lemons (you’ll need about 6 or so) to make some lemonade. It is so refreshing to sip on during a warm spring day. If you need a recipe for the best homemade lemonade, check it out on my other post here.
